Join us for 5 days of photographing, galleries, photo talks, and more in London, including 3 days of the PHOTOLONDON photography fair and exhibition. Alison will take us photo walking through selected locations such as Camden market … Regents Canal … the locks and little Venice … Portobello Road … and Notting Hill… evening shots of the city … morning shots in the Markets and Neighborhoods …And we’ll visit some pubs along the way!

We’ll photograph early morning and late afternoon, with mid-day hours for critiquing, portfolio reviews, and time to be out on your own.

• Welcome Dinner at the Headquarter’s House in London on May 15th. Alison will share her career and stories with us, as well as Jessica hers.

• Headquarter’s House – a home in central London where Nancy, Alison and Jessica will reside, and where students may gather to talk, critique, review and share their work over a glass of wine or cider, or a cuppa tea.

• 5 days of photographing, attending exhibitions and programs at PHOTOLONDON along with photowalks with Alison and Jessica throughout London

• Projection of, and critiquing, work throughout the week.

• Portfolio reviews by Alison, Jessica and/or Nancy.

• PHOTOLONDON 3-day pass to galleries and exhibitions (note: lectures may carry an additional fee).

• Farewell Dinner at the Headquarter’s House on Saturday evening, May 20th, with sharing projections of our work from the week.

Alison Wright, a New York based documentary photographer, has spent a career capturing the universal human spirit through her photographs and writing. For many of her editorial and commercial projects, Alison travels to all regions of the globe photographing endangered cultures and people while covering issues concerning the human condition.

Wright has been named a 2013 National Geographic Traveler of the Year as someone who travels with a sense of passion and purpose and was recently awarded The Most Compelling Woman in the Travel Industry by Premier Traveler magazine. Wright is a recipient of the Dorothea Lange Award in Documentary Photography and a two-time winner of the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award.

She is a National Geographic contributor and has been published in numerous other publications including Outside, Islands, Smithsonian Magazine, Time and The New York Times.

Alison has photographed/authored nine books including two National Geographic Traveler books on London and Great Britain. Alison’s memoir, Learning to Breathe; One Woman’s Journey of Spirit and Survival, is a compelling story of survival after her life was nearly cut short during a horrific bus accident on a remote jungle road in Laos and her ongoing determination to recover and continue traveling the world as an intrepid photojournalist. This inspired her to establish a foundation called Faces of Hope; a non-profit that globally supports women and children’s rights by creating visual awareness and donating directly to grass-roots organizations that help sustain them. Her new book, Human Tribe, is due out next spring.

Artist and storyteller Jessica Hines, uses the camera’s inherent quality as a recording device to explore illusion and to suggest truths that underlie the visible world. At the core of Hines’ work lies an inquisitive nature inspired by personal memory, experience and the unconscious mind. Hines began to cultivate her creative disposition early in life and her love of the arts led her to attend Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Continuing to pursue her interests, she studied photography at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Hines most recently won 1st Place in the Kuala Lumpur International PhotoAwards, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1st Place in NEXT: New Photographic Visions, Castell Photography Gallery, curated by Elizabeth Avedon, Asheville, North Carolina, The Kolga Awardfor Best Experimental Photography, Kolga Tbislisi Photo in Tbilisi, Georgia, Humanitarian Documentary Grant in the WPGA Annual, Pollux Awards, juried by Philip Brookman, Chief Curator and Head of Research at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC, First Prize in Fine Art Portfolio in the World Wide Photography Gala Awards, Grand Prize for portfolio in the Lens Culture International Exposure Awards 2010 and her work was exhibited in the New York Photo Festival 2011 in Subjective/Objective, curated by Elisabeth Biondi, New York, New York.

Hines’ lectures and exhibitions have been included at Palais de Glace Exhibition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Belfast Photo Factory, Belfast, Northern Ireland, The Gallery of Photography, Dublin, Ireland, Unitec New Zealand Mâori: Te Whare Wânanga o Wairaka, in Auckland, New Zealand, Huazhong University in Wuhan, China, Sai Gon Thanh Pho Mo/Saigon Open City Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, Galleria de Artes Plasticas, Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico, GoEun Museum of Photography, Busan, Korea, China Pingyao International Photography Festival Pingyao, China, Fototage in Mannheim/Ludwigshafen, Germany, as well as at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the Spéos Photographic Institute in Paris, France. The New Yorker has published Hines’ work numerous times and it has been been exhibited and published throughout North and South America, Asia,  Europe, and Oceania.
